Summer School in Ancient Greek Scholarship 2026
“ERGA. Exegesis, lexicography, grammar / La letteratura erudita nella Grecia antica. Esegesi, lessicografia, grammatica” (4th edition)

This summer school offers course-work consisting of theoretical lectures and practical exercises covering the field of research on scholarship in Ancient Greece, with a focus on lexicography, manuscript studies and exegesis. The teaching language will be English.
It is jointly organised by the Etymologika project of the Academy of Sciences and the Humanities in Hamburg, the University of Hamburg, and the Centre for the Study of Manuscript Cultures (CSMC) (Christian Brockmann, José Maksimczuk, Daniel Deckers), in co-operation with Università della Basilicata (Elena Esposito), Università di Firenze (Francesca Maltomini), Università degli Studi di Genova (Franco Montanari, Lara Pagani, Serena Perrone), Università di Pavia (Fausto Montana), and Università di Roma Tor Vergata (Lorenzo Perilli, Stefano Valente), and will be taught by scholars from all involved institutions. Invited speakers include Eleanor Dickey (University of Reading), Ciro Giacomelli (Università di Padova), and Olga Tribulato (Università Ca' Foscari Venezia).
We welcome applications from advanced students and young researchers. Participation is free of charge, however attendees have to book their own travel and accomodation, of which we can refund 500 EUR per participant. (Students of the University of Hamburg are welcome to apply to participate, but are not eligible for the refund.)
